New Year's Eve - Singapore Style

Saturday, January 31st

Late-night date-night with the Mahaffey's!
After we put the kids to bed, we headed over to the much-anticipated Chocolate Bar!
I think Michelle and I had been looking forward to this since the day we got to Singapore.
Finally, our day has come.
Let's. Do. This.
Chad and I started off with some citrus water and a chilled caramel milkshake.
Pouring:
Tasting:
Verdict on the citrus water:
Chad: Thumbs up.
Lisa: Thumbs way down. Yikes. Why would they do that to water?

Verdict on the caramel milkshake:
Chad: Thumbs up.
Lisa: Thumbs in the middle--it was a little on the bitter side.

Now, let's get to the REAL reason we came:
Chocolate soufflé with raspberry sorbet and white chocolate ganache
Hmm...can you tell we liked it?
Verdict on the soufflé:
Chad: "So good. Almost as good as beef jerky."
Lisa: "I think this is what they serve in heaven."

Now, let's check out what the Mahaffey's ordered.
A mango smoothie, ice cream and...
A mint chocolate soufflé with mint chocolate ganache!

I think everything was enjoyed by all!
If we ever make it back to Singapore, we must come visit the chocolate bar again!!

After all of that deliciousness, we headed out for the rest of our New Year's Eve festivities.
Even though it was about 10PM, our night had just begun!!
We headed down to the Harbor-front with, seemingly, the rest of Singapore.
It was PACKED!
There was a concert going on in the stadium and there were HUNDREDS of people outside of the stadium gates. We were a little bummed that SO many people were there!

Maybe this wasn't worth it?!?

But, then!
We realized that for a little bit of cash...they would let us into the gates RIGHT ON THE WATER!!
Heck yes. We are so there.

Check out our amazing seats for the fireworks show:
Yes, that is us, not crammed into a tiny space with 450 people packed up against us.
I distinctly remember entering through the gates and stretching my arms out in massive relief!
Do you see those glowing red things on the water? Let me take you back a few weeks and share some secret information about those.

They are actually white beach balls...hundreds of them.
They look like this:
A few weeks before we arrived, my mom had the chance to write a message on one. Here's what she wrote:
"Rob, Lisa, Chad, Michelle, Chad, Landon, Sydney, Karli, Keely, Ashley, & baby! Happy New Year 2012!"

So THAT very ball was floating out in the bay as we sat and watched the fireworks.
How cool is that??
View of the Marina Bay Sans hotel:
Happy 2012!
Those silly Mahaffeys:
After the countdown, the fireworks started!!
The fireworks were hands-down the MOST AMAZING fireworks I have ever seen!
And, they went on forever! We kept thinking we were at the finale, but they just kept coming!

After the fireworks, we had to join the masses once again :(

Here was the view directly behind us:
(Which one of these people doesn't belong??)
And here was the view in front of us.
A trip that should have taken us 15 minutes to get home took an hour and a half.
I thought Michelle was going to go into labor for sure!
I have never felt so hot, sweaty, and sardined as I did that night.

But I must say, it was TOTALLY WORTH IT!
Happy 2012!
