Disneyland - Day 1

Wednesday, December 28th

After the princess sighting, we headed off to try to find Grandpa & Landon, and right as we walked through the castle, this is what we saw:
Found them!

So, we all got in line for Dumbo!
Here is Karli with her boarding pass.
Next Up? TEACUPS!
Grandma & Syd-gettin' ready!
Karli and I fully embraced the fact that we could spin our own cup. We got a little crazy! As Karli would say, "We were spinning SUPER fast!"
Daddy & Ashley opted out of this ride.
All of the crazy spinning isn't really their "cup of tea." Haha! I had to.
They both enjoyed the stationary teapot that is used for photo ops!
We had to take advantage of the incredibly short lines so we raced from ride to ride as fast as we could. Next up, we went on the Merry-Go-Round where Ashley experienced her first Disneyland Ride. She loved it!

Next, we headed to one of my favorites when I was little, "It's a Small World."
What is this picture you ask?
That is a picture showing the huge lack of line! So. Amazingly. Awesome. We literally walked right on!
Ashley just got to lay back and enjoy the show. Perfect.
The kids scored the ride as a "thumbs up!"
Where to next??
We headed over to Space Mountain. We weren't sure if Karli & Keely would be tall enough to ride, so we had to check!

Karli was a Go!
Keely: Not so much. So close though.
I forgot how much fun Space Mountain is! We had a blast! Karli even liked it. I think Sydney liked it the most and if she had it her way, she'd probably ride that one over and over again. BUT, we had to move on :)

We moved on to...
The Cars!
Up to this point, we had probably waited in line a total of 10 minutes. This was our first line, and we were waiting in line to drive cars that go 8 mph. How ironic. I forgot how exciting this ride is for kids! But they sure were stoked!
Karli was a great driver while I played the role of the supportive and non-judgemental passenger (who also has a break pedal).
We had a great time...except for the fact that this guy behind us was tailing us.
Foreign Drivers!

Next, we went to take a little ride with our friend...BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!

While my mom was busy taking pictures, Ashley and I were busy racking up major points!
What a Fun Ride!

Next, we headed over and took the fairy ride to Tarzan's Island, where quite a few awkward moments took place...
Our Family Picture...normal.
A random Asian person taking pictures of Michelle & Keely...not normal.
An Asian man asking to take a picture with Karli...definitely not normal. And not really OK either. Karli (and Chad) were good sports about it. I couldn't believe how excited the people got when they saw blonde kids. This was the first of many awkward moments of people taking pictures of us.
Also awkward:
Being 8 1/2 months pregnant and walking around with 3 cotton candies.
Hungry much, Michelle?! Just kidding!
Michelle and I went to get snacks for everyone while we rested up a bit.

CLASSIC:
I'm pretty sure it's a LAW that you have to have a Mickey-shaped ice cream while at Disneyland. We try to follow all laws.

Ashley was not afraid to dig in:
We saw some other people having snacks also. It seems like EVERYONE in the park was eating this:
Some sort of fried and leathered fish. Gross! They may not have funnel cakes at Hong Kong Disneyland, but the DO have this nasty stuff! We will pass.

Then, we headed over to the new Toy Story Land. Pretty darn cute!

We waited in line for the Slinky ride.
The longer we waited, the wigglier the kids got. Here's proof:
There was some of this:
And a lot of that:
And non-stop this:

Luckily, Ashley found a new best friend in her Uncle Chad.

She was mesmerized! He must be pretty cool!
Finally! It was time to ride?
Can you tell if there are any 3 year-olds getting tired yet?!?

After the Slinky ride, the kids took a picture showcasing their different personalities in the RC Race Car!

After Toy Story Land, we headed over to the theater to watch the 3D show.
The cutest part of the show was when we put the glasses on Ashley and she was reaching for the objects in the air. Chad and I were cracking up! She couldn't quite figure out what was happening!

We then headed over to the Whinnie The Pooh Ride. Everyone got to ride this one!
By this time, we were ready for dinner, so we rode the train to Main Street where we went to a restaurant.
Of course, the rice was in the shape of Mickey Mouse! Too cool.
After dinner, the kids talked Grandma into buying them each a souvenir. When Michelle and I were little, my parents bought us umbrellas and DisneyWorld, so we had to carry on the tradition! 3 princess umbrellas, 1 Minnie Mouse umbrella, and...a visor!
Let me talk about the infamous visor for a second. This was the first thing Landon saw at the little souvenir kiosk. Michelle tried REALLY hard to convince him to get something else...there were LOTS of cool things. But, no, he saw the visor first, and there was no going back. So, he got the visor.

Michelle was explaining to us how when Landon gets to pick a toy, he usually ends up picking the very first toy he sees even if there are way better and cooler toys available.
Then, my mom said one of the funniest things I have ever heard her say. She said, "Oh, wow. It's like he imprints on the first toy." A twilight joke! Haha! Michelle and I were almost in tears we were laughing so hard!

Landon even spent some time trying to convince Ashley that his visor was cool. She wasn't really interested.

After dinner and souvenirs, the Smith fam called it a day, and headed back to the hotel. The girls were practically begging to go to bed :)
The Grandparents and the Mahaffey's stayed to watch the fireworks.
What an amazing first day at DisneyLand. See you tomorrow!
